Anita Oakley

Anita Oakley

  • Tonbridge & Malling Borough Councillor for Larkfield South
  • Leader of the Lib Dem Group on TMBC
  • Parish Councillor for East Malling & Larkfield

Although Anita was born and worked in London, she has lived in Larkfield since 1981. She has two grown up children who went to school locally. When they were small she ran a Toy Library with three friends for the NCT. Following a successful campaign to use the 'mobile' classroom at Brookfield Infants for the pre-school (KCC said they were condemned), Anita joined East Malling and Larkfield Parish Council where she was, until recently, the Chairman of the Amenities Committee. A few years later she was elected to Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council to represent the Larkfield South ward where she has been a member for nearly 30 years. Anita was Mayor in the 2000 and found it a very humbling experience, meeting so many people who volunteered doing all sorts of activities to benefit the Community.

In 2008 she was proud to be awarded an MA in Fine Art, Sculpture, from the University of Kent at Canterbury. She had completed her BA (Hons) just a year or two before that. Anita supports her husband in his hobbies, but most of the time, between emails, can be found creating clay pieces in her studio.

Anita is the Leader of the Opposition at TMBC, with a group of eight other Lib Dem Councillors from both ends of the borough.
