Richard Morris is the Liberal Democrat Candidate for Tonbridge and Malling.
"As a passionate supporter of a united Britain and Northern Ireland at the heart of Europe, I believe the calling of the 2016 referendum was a monumental mistake. Years later our leaders are still unclear as to what this instruction meant. Instead of finding a constructive outcome, they are treating our closest neighbours, partners and allies as enemies. "
Richard was educated at New College, Oxford and graduated with honours in Law.
He qualified and practised as a solicitor at Farrer & Co in London and then worked for 8 years in the City as an investment banker with Grindlay Brandts and S G Warburg. He next joined the book publishers Hodder & Stoughton and rose to become joint managing director. Richard also became a founding director of Invicta Radio (the original local radio station for Kent) and a governor of Kent Music. Politics is his fifth career.
From 1993 to 2009 he was chief executive of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and has served as a trustee of various educational and arts charities. Richard has just completed an 8-year term as Chairman of the Yehudi Menuhin School and continues as a founding trustee of the London Music Fund.
He and his family have lived within the Tonbridge and Malling constituency for over 30 years. Richard is on the committee of the West Kent branch of the European Movement (EM) and of the affiliated organisation SSTIE (Sevenoaks, Swanley and Tonbridge in Europe). He has served for the past two years as a member of both the National Council and the National Executive of EM UK. He has recently taken on responsibility for EM UK’s liaison with EM International.
